IFTA nominee and multi-award winning writer/director Paddy Slattery has been a wheelchair user since a serious car crash twenty years ago left him quadriplegic. His inspirational journey continues as Zanzibar Films announce plans to produce his debut feature film The Broken Law of Attraction and a crowdfunding campaign for the film is launched
Despite having to overcome this life changing event, Paddy has been a prominent name in the Irish film landscape over the last number of years with a critically acclaimed writing, directorial and production repertoire of short films including The Moment (2010), Runner (2012), Skunky Dog (2014) and Today (2015).
Titled The Broken Law of Attraction, this indie crime/drama will be produced by Edwina Forkin and Deirdre McNally for Zanzibar Films, the production company behind Sanctuary, winner of Best Feature at Galway Film Fleadh this year and Swansong, which garnered IFTA nominations in 2011 with Martin McCann winning his first IFTA for the lead performance.
Slatterys’s highly anticipated debut feature is a multi-layered story featuring rising star Tristan Heanue (In View, Cardboard Gangsters) in the lead role as Dave Connolly who reluctantly follows in his late Father’s footsteps by becoming a trusted member of the Garda Síochána. His loyalty to the law is soon put to the test when his ex-convict brother Joe comes back into his life in desperate need of his help. Allegiance to his brother is tested when he falls in love with Amia, the victim of his brother’s previous crime.
The Broken Law of Attraction is currently moving into pre-production and shooting is expected to get underway over the coming months with an Irish cast and crew to be announced very soon. Filming will take place around various suburban Dublin locations.
But, before a frame of film can be shot, there is one important challenge they need to overcome. The production team are launching a crowd-funding campaign online and reaching out to the public to donate what they can in order to help make this project happen. Paddy’s determination and passion to make this film is palpable as he comments: “We’re shooting this film, by hook or by crook! I don’t want any special treatment because I’m a wheelchair user, I just want a fair crack of the whip as I believe I’ve earned it. So, I’m pleading with anyone who has a few bob to spare and an interest in supporting the arts, to support this project. Without you’re help, we simply cannot make this film.” Donations can be pledged here at http://www.indiegogo.com/at/thebrokenlawofattraction
